When Acura launched on March 27, 1986, Integra was one of two models that made up the automaker’s vehicle lineup. With all the buzz surrounding Acura’s announcement last month, South Dakota drivers (and drivers worldwide for that matter) are wondering: Is the Acura Integra coming back? Yes! Vern Eide Acura is thrilled to confirm the auto manufacturer is indeed re-introducing a new Acura Integra in 2022.
While Acura’s press release for the all-new Integra was short and sweet (and delightfully mysterious), it brought about more questions than answers. For instance, how much will this newest generation borrow from past Integra models? Will it offer a manual transmission option? What type of engine will it carry under the hood? Will it be available as both a sedan and a coupe? The only thing we know for certain is Integra will be Acura’s entry-level vehicle, as MotorTrend was able to speak with Jon Ikeda—Acura’s Brand Officer—for their article last month. Ikeda also confirmed that although Integra will be the automaker’s new entry-level car, it won’t be replacing the Acura ILX.
The Type R badge is only reserved for the highest performing vehicles. Even though Acura is part of the Honda Motor Company, one should not confuse the all-new Acura Integra set to be released in 2022 with the Acura Integra Type R race car. However, this is not to say Acura’s new luxury car won’t be borrowing some of the powertrain components that are currently helping the RealTime Racing #42 Integra Type R return to glory on the track.
As is common practice with automakers that manufacture multiple brands, Acura and Honda have shared chassis designs, engines, and transmissions in the past, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Type R engineering make its way into the all-new Acura Integra.
While the team at Vern Eide Acura, South Dakota drivers, and frankly most of the automotive industry are eager to get a glimpse of the new Acura Integra, the experts at CarBuzz uncovered an interesting piece of information. As the Type S design concept is being introduced to both Acura SUV models (MDX Type S) and cars (TLX Type S), one can’t help but wonder if we will see an Acura Integra Type S?
Well, lucky for us, we have automotive insiders like CarBuzz that are keeping a close eye on this vehicle’s release date. These auto experts uncovered that Acura filed a trademark application for the “Integra Type S” name on August 20, 2021. This seems like a promising glimpse into Acura’s future intentions for this new luxury car. As most Acura enthusiasts know, the original Integra was a stylish, performance-focused car, so the thought of an Acura Integra Type S is nothing short of exhilarating!
When can you buy an Acura Integra? Unfortunately, with very limited details at this time, the automotive industry can only speculate on an Integra release date. All reports are pointing toward a 2023 model being manufactured in early 2022, but after that, we’re all left waiting to find out when car shoppers will be able to buy an Acura Integra for sale in Sioux Falls, SD.
How much will an Acura Integra cost? Although Acura is yet to release an official statement in regards to an MSRP, the professionals at Car and Driver expect the 2023 Acura Integra price to start at around $35,000, depending on your drivetrain, trim package, and paint choice. As we mentioned earlier, it sounds like an Integra Type S is inevitable, but what other surprises can we expect?
Will the Integra come equipped with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD)? How about an Integra hybrid model? What would an Acura Integra A-Spec Package look like? South Dakota’s luxury car shoppers will just have to wait and see! One thing’s for sure, these possibilities will be occupying our Integra daydreams until Acura releases more details.
